Achievement whores unite!

If you're a giant fan of Blizzard but you also play Xbox Live a lot brace yourself, the two things may soon have something in common, achievement points.

Lead World of Warcraft designer, Jeff Kaplan broke the news to MTV in a recent interview saying, "eventually, our plans are for the achievement system to become an account-based system."

This new global achievement system will encompass all Blizzard games and likely be similar to that of Xbox Live where gamers accrue points for completing ingame tasks for stats, ranks, awards and other crazy obscure things.

"Your 'WoW' score would be just one factor that will go into your Blizzard Level. And rather than call it a 'score,' we just wanted it to be like you're leveling up on Blizzard games," said Kaplan. "You'll have this Blizzard identity, and you'll be able to see things like 'Oh, this guy was great at Diablo III, but he never played Starcraft and he was mediocre in WoW.' That sort of thing."

We know that Blizzard has been very tight lipped about the new Battle.net 2.0 that is in development but one could easily assume that this new achievement system is just one of Battle.net's new features that is sure to excite fans. However, gamers will first get their hands on it with the release of WoW: Wrath of the Litch King. The point/leveling system will be anchored at the World of Warcraft armory site at first but this doesn't mean that it won't function out of Battle.net 2.0 in the future as StarCraft 2 and Diablo 3 launch.
